Distractions, such as any compulsion or addiction, are attempts to avoid inner pain and fear. Evolutionarily, we evolved to avoid the unpleasant and dangerous and to move toward the pleasant and safe as a means of survival. In some situations avoidance makes sense, but as a reflexive default, it doesn’t help us lead full and satisfying lives.
Meeting, greeting, welcoming and engaging our fears is the path of transformation and freedom. Fears that remain unseen and unexamined unconsciously “drive our bus.” To earn a deep, resilient happiness, each unhappy belief needs your attention so that it can be examined and seen to be false. As we come to know the unchanging truth of who we are realize ourself as goodness and wellbeing itself. The energy invested in denial is freed giving you a youthful spring in your step.
So in an attempt to avoid our pain, we have also avoided our goodness.
Ask yourself “What am I distracting myself from?”
Now feel back into your own sense of wellbeing for 6 or 7 breaths and absorb it.
